Residency Advising

Matching into a competitive residency depends as much on strategy and positioning as it does on academic performance. This advising is led by the founder, who received interview offers from over 90% of the programs he applied to in one of the most competitive surgical specialties in the country, including institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, University of Pennsylvania, Emory, Baylor, and Washington University. Drawing from firsthand experience navigating a post–Step 1 pass/fail landscape, this service provides hands-on guidance in application strategy, program targeting, and interview preparation for competitive residency placement.

Individualized residency advising offered in 30- or 60-minute sessions for medical students at any stage of training. Sessions are tailored to the applicant’s goals, background, and timeline, with guidance spanning both immediate decisions and long-term planning.

Common topics include:

  • Specialty selection aligned with competitiveness and long-term career goals

  • Away rotation strategies

  • VSLO application editing

  • Research year planning

  • Strategies to strengthen applications for DO students, IMGs, and re-applicants

  • Dual specialty application

  • Couples matching

  • Letter of recommendation planning and timing

  • Developing residency personal statement narrative

  • General advising throughout medical school as needs arise

Applicants who establish a longitudinal advising relationship earlier in medical school typically experience the strongest outcomes.

Residency Strategy Consulting

This service is designed for applicants who already have a draft personal statement and want expert, line-by-line editing to strengthen clarity and specialty alignment. Applicants submit an existing draft, which is edited to refine structure, sharpen messaging, and ensure the statement communicates maturity, purpose, and fit without losing the applicant’s authentic voice.

Focus areas include:

  • Narrative flow, organization, and clarity

  • Specialty-specific framing and motivation

  • Tone, professionalism, and originality

  • Iterative revisions with individualized feedback

Residency Personal Statement Editing

A detailed, line-by-line review of the ERAS application (excluding the personal statement) focused on clarity, prioritization, and strategic framing to ensure programs quickly understand who you are and why you are competitive.

Includes review of:

  • Experiences and activities descriptions

  • Research, abstracts, and publications entries

  • Awards, honors, and leadership roles

  • Specialty alignment and narrative consistency across sections

The goal is to present a cohesive, intentional application where each component reinforces your narrative for the specialty you are applying into.

ERAS Residency Application Editing

One-on-one mock interviews designed to simulate the residency interview experience, followed by detailed feedback on responses, communication style, and overall impression.

Emphasis on:

  • Behavioral and specialty-specific questions

  • Discussing research clearly and confidently

  • Identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement

Especially valuable for applicants interviewing in competitive specialties or at top-tier programs.
